Sulzer Management Ltd.
Four pillars for the sustainability report
A four-part sustainability strategy is at the core of Sulzer’s new sustainability report. We were allowed to turn those four parts into 136 pages - and a not-so-small microsite.
Room for stories on the microsite
Our brief on this project is voluminous even in writing: we did the overall project management, the design and execution of the report plus the development of the microsite. The site was the focus point in terms of storytelling. We designed it to be centered around people and stories as a counterpoint to the many facts and figures. Compelling statements offer an insight into the goals the company has set itself for 2050. The complete sustainability report is prominently available as a PDF download.
Signposts for the reading experience
Minimize, Enable, Engage, and Govern are the four pillars that carry the sustainability strategy. They are based on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and were like a compass we followed to structure the content. As a visual orientation for the readers, we designed a color-coded graphic that guides them through the four chapters of the report. The highlighted numbers in the subchapters serve as additional visual anchor points. They offer more access points into the text and reinforce the content.
Personality beckons between the standards
Just like financial reports, sustainability reports follow certain standards. We implemented the framework in accordance with GRI 2021 (Global Reporting Initiative), with references to the Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs) of the UN and the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). In between all the rules and standards, however, there is always room for personality. That's why each chapter is introduced by a statement from the responsible employee, followed by a short overview, the management approach, the “lessons learned”, and finally an outlook. Because when your report is 136 pages long, a good structure is key.
